In this Quickfire, the cheftestants are tasked with impressing the master of sushi, Katsuya.
It’s down to final six so that means No more immunity. Chef Katsuya says sushi is very simple – fish and rice – don’t touch too much. Brooke is super excited, she makes sushi for herself and her husband for lunch all the time. Josh has never made sushi and apparently has never even eaten sushi. Unsurprisingly he ends up on the bottom, along with Lizzie.
Katsuya says pouring hot soup over cold fish makes it fishier. Good to know.
Katusya is intrigued by Sheldon’s hamachi with lemon charcoal dust, but Brooke and Stefan beat Sheldon out.
Brooke made a clean octopus with yuzu and grated wasabi and Stefan made yellowtail with grilled shitake and raw lobster with seaweed and unagi. (Shown Below) Stefan won his first win of the season. He gets $5,000, but immunity is off the table.
And it’s fried chicken for the Elimination Challenge as the cheftestants head to Tom’s Seattle digs to cook for a table full of culinary superstars. It’s an epic dinner service filled with big laughs and great stories. David Chang, Michelle Bernstein, Jon Shook, and Vinny Dotolo join judges Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, head judge Tom Colicchio, and host Padma Lakshmi for a night to remember.
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
Josh is thrilled about this challenge, which goes right to his roots.
“I grew up eating traditional Southern fried chicken,” he says. “My grandfather probably made the best fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. When I eat fried chicken now, that’s what I think about.”
Here’s what everyone fried:
Sheldon: Umami drumsticks and thighs, wings with usukuchi and grapeseed oil (“Momofoko-style”). Sheldon’s chicken is a success, but the judges notice he didn’t have enough for everyone.
Lizzie: Chicken with coriander, black pepper, and brown sugar rub with peach-cabbage slaw.
Josie: Southern-fried chicken with black garlic, cayenne, thume, and hot sauce with daikon salad.
Stefan: Chicken cordon bleu with garlic aïoli and lemon.
Josh: Smoked fried chicken with hot sauce and blue cheese.
Brooke: Dukkah-crusted chicken breast with wilted escarole and tomato salad.
Elimination Challenge: Simply make fried chicken for a dinner party hosted at Tom’s rented Seattle home.
Top Chefs: Josh, Lizzie and Sheldon
Main Challenge Winner: Josh’s Smoked Fried Chicken with Hot Sauce and Blue Cheese. Instead of the $10,000 bonus, Josh got 365 bottles of wine.
Bottom Chefs: Josie, Stefan and Brooke
Eliminated Chef: Josie is kicked off the show. There’s a weird moment between Stefan and Josie, when he goes in to hug her, but she gives him a high five instead. Josie thinks getting the boot for fried chicken is “stupid.

I was sooooooooo glad to see Josie FINALLY get the boot! She should have been gone a long time ago.
