#TopChef Seattle Episode 13 Recap: Chefs at Sea @BravoTopChef

Chefs, ahoy! The cheftestants are setting sail for Alaska. While aboard, they’ll tackle a Quickfire of cruise ship proportions, elevating iceberg lettuce into a flavorful amuse bouche.

For the Elimination Challenge, they must create a new spin on the cruise ship classic, Surf and Turf. The pressure is on to make the final four, and one cheftestant disembarks in a heartbreaking elimination. Guest judge Curtis Stone joins Hugh Acheson, head judge Tom Colicchio and host Padma Lakshmi.

We approach the final four. Padma announces that the chefs are packing their bags for an Alaskan cruise to determine the final four!

Quickfire Challenge: Elevating iceberg lettuce into a flavorful amuse bouche.

The chefs are hosting the Welcome Aboard party for the Celebrity Cruises and have two hours to create a single dish for 200 guests and have two hours to make 200 portions.

Josh’s elevated version of the wedge salad, with apple cider vinaigrette, bacon jam, and blue cheese rave reviews, as did Stefan’s pastrami, braised lettuce, and fingerling potato dish. And while everyone’s flavors were strong, Lizzie’s iceberg salad and Brooke’s bacon, lettuce and scallop wrap both lost points for being difficult to eat.

But Sheldon’s pork and shrimp Vietnamese lettuce wrap with pickled iceberg hearts brought the most complex flavors, and he earned an advantage in the Elimination challenge.

Elimination Challenge: Create a new spin on the cruise ship classic, Surf and Turf.

The chefs will run dinner service at Qsine, making their own innovative takes on Surf and Turf. Each chef picks two proteins, and once the proteins have been selected, they are no longer available for anyone else. Sheldon, being the Quickfire winner, gets advantage of first pick, and picks…lobster and beef filet. Josh goes for the pork, as we all knew he would and pairs that with scallops. Brooke goes with the gutsy pick of frog legs and mussels Stefan pairs pork belly with eel.

The Final Five await their fate.

Brooke won the challenge and a seven-night Caribbean vacation for two.

Sheldon and Stefan were the bottom two.

In the end Stefan is sent packing. Now he’ll face off against his “wife” in Last Chance Kitchen.
